Properties:

Dimenhydrinate is an antihistamine (H1 -bolcker) with a central anti.
_emetic effect. Its action in motion sickness is potentiated by pyridoxine hydrochloride.

<b>Pharmacokinetics:</b>
The active substance is continuously released from DRAMIN-R timed-release tablets and provides anti-emetic cover over a period of 10-12 hours.
The onset of action takes place 15-20 minutes after taking the tablets.
Maximal plasma levels are reached after 1-2 hours. Since the active substance is extensively metabolisd in the liver, only very small amounts of substance are excreted unchanged via the kidney.

Indications:

Nausea of different etiology, motion sickness, sea sickness, post-irradiation nausea, Meniere\\\'s syndrome.

Contraindications:

No absolute contraindication.

Side Effects:

In high doses the preparation can cause somnolence and impair the ability to drive and operate machinery. Side effects on the CNS such as vertigo, impaired coordination, tremor, double vision, nervousness and sleep disturbances may possibly occur. A tropine-like effects such as mouth dryness, retention of urine and gastrointestinal disturbances, have been described. Drug allergy to Dimenhydrinate may occur.

Precautions:

Anti-emetics can mask the damaging effects of certain antibiotics on the vestibular system and should therefore be taken concurrently with the latter preparations only after consultation with the doctor.
The use of medicines during pregnancy requires that the advantages and disadvantages of such medication are carefully weighed against each other.

Therefore, DRAMIN-R should only be used in the first trimester of pregnancy if there are compelling reasons and only after consultation with a doctor.

Drug Interactions:

Dimenhydrinate can potentate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics and alcohol.

Dosage:

Adults: tablet each in the morning and in the evening.
Children from 5-8 years: 1/4 - 1/2 tablet once or twice daily.
Children from 8-12 years: 1/2 tablet once or twice daily.
Children over 12 years: 1 tablet daily.
Postoperative and post-irradiation nausea: 1 tablet as prophylaxis before treatment.

<b>Motion sickness:</b>
Prophylaxis:1 timed-release tablet 30 minutes before departure. On travels of long duration 1 timed-release tablet every 10-12 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with some liquid.
