Properties:

- Gentamicin, a wide-spectrum antibiotic, provides highly effective topical treatment in primary and secondary bacterial infections of the skin. It is a bacteriocidal agent that is not effective against viruses or fungi.

- GENTAMYCIN Cream is used in treating oozing lesion, while GENTAMYCIN Ointment is suitable for chronic and dry lesions.

- GENTAMYCIN Cream or Ointment is cosmetically more acceptable to the patients because it is washable, less greasy and easier to apply.

- GENTAMYCIN Cream or Ointment has been used in children over one year old successfully.

Indications:

Primary skin infection: Impetigo, superficial folliculitis, furunculosis, Pyoderma gangrenosum.

<b>Secondary skin infections:</b>
- Infectious eczematoid dermatitis, infected contact dermatitis, pustular acne.
- Infected burns and ulcerations, infected erosions, contaminated wounds.
- Operative wounds, sharp cuts, infected insect bites and stings.
- Paronychia (panaris).
- It could be used in treating boils after being incised, and infected dermal cysts.

Contraindications:

The drug is contraindicated in individuals with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its components.

Precautions:

It is not used for children under one year of age.
When treating impetigo the crusts should be removed before applying the cream or the ointment.

Dosage:

Apply the cream or the ointment as a thin layer twice to four times daily over the affected area, or as the doctor’s directions.
The area treated may be covered with a gauze dressing if desired.
