Each tablet contains 400 mg of albendazole.

A carton box contains 10 tablets of bentazol.

Pharmacologic Category:



This drug is considered as a wide spectrum anthelmintic which affects on a large group of worms. The obsorption of benzatol will be increased when the treatment is accompanied with rich fatty food.


Adjunct to surgery in hydatid cysts caused by echinococcus granulosus or e.multiocularis, or primary treatment if surgery not possible, strongyloidiasis.
This drug is effective on various parasites.
1- ascaris lumbricoides.
2- anky lostoma duodenal.
3- trichocephalus.
4- strongyloides stercoralis.
5- cestodes: taenia saginata, taenia solium.
6- oxyuris.
It is effective also for the treatment of parenchymol neurocysticercosis caused by larval forms of taenia solium.


1- pregnancy.
2- hypersensitivity to any component of benzatol.

Side Effects:

Gastro-intestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness,
Changes in liver enzymes, rash, fever, blood disorders including leucopenia and pancytopenia, allergic shock if cyst leakage: meningeal signs in cerebral disease.


1- it is not recommended to use benzatol for children under the age of 6 years.
2- it is not recommended to use bentazol during the pregnancy and lactation because the main metabolite of albendazole is albendazole sulfoxid which is excreted in the milk.


1- Ascaris and trichuriasis: 400 mg as a single dose.
2- Hydatid Disease:
- Patient weight 60 kg or greater :400 mg twice a day, with meals.
- Patient weight Less than 60kg: 15 mg/kg/day given in divided doses twice a day with meals (maximum total) daily dose 800mg ).
Duration: 28-day cycle followed by a 14-day BENZATOL free interval, for a total of 3 cycles
3- Neurocysticercosis:
- Patient weight 60 kg or greater: 400mg twice a day, with meals.
- Patient weight Less than 60 kg: 15mg/kg/day given in divided doses twice a day with meals ( maximum total daily dose 800mg ).
Duration: 8-30 days.
