CLARATADIN belongs to a class of medicines know as antihistamines.
Antithistamines help to reduce allergic symptoms by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced in the body.


CLARATADIN relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (for example, hay fever), such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and burning or itchy eyes.

CLARATADIN may also be used in the treatment of urticaria (hives), and allergic skin condition, to relieve symptoms such as itching, redness and the number and size of hives.


You should not receive treatment with CLARATADIN if you have had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine.

Side Effects:

With any medicine, undesirable side effects may occur that occasionally may need medical attention. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you have any reaction to CLARATADIN that continues, is bothersome or that you think is serious.

At the recommended dose, CLARATADIN does not usually cause dry mouth or drowiness. Most commonly reported side effects include headache, tiredness, upset stomach, nervousness, and rash. In rare instances, hair loss, severe allergic reaction and liver problems have been reported.


If you think you are having an allergic reaction to CLARATADIN (sudden onset of wheezing or difficulty in breathing shortly after taking this medication), seek medical assistance immediately.

CLARATADIN should not be given to children younger than 2 years of age.
Keep this medicine and all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.

At the recommended dose, CLARATADIN should not cause you to become drowsy or less alert than usual or interfere with your ability to drive or use machinery. However, if you do become drowsy, use this medication with caution until drowsiness no longer occurs.

<strong>SPECIAL WARNINGS:</strong>
Before taking CLARATADIN tell your doctor or pharmacist:
- If you are pregnant or nursing a baby.
- If you are allergic to foods, sulfites or other preservatives, or dyes.
- If you have liver disease.

Drug Interactions:

CLARATADIN has not been shown to add to the effects of an alcoholic drink. If you are scheduled to have any skin tests for allergies you should not take CLARATADIN for two days before having these tests, because this medicine may affect test results.


Be sure to take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has instructed. Do not take more CLARATADIN Tablets than recommended on the label and do not take this medicine more often than recommended.

Adults and children 12 years of age and over: One CLARATADIN Tablet once daily, preferably before a meal, with a glass of water.

If you forgot to take your dose on time, take it as soon as possible, then go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Over Dosage:

To date no serious problems have been seen after accidental over dosage with CLARATADIN; however, if you take an overdose, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
